No.12 • Dear Hazara,
This cookie is an ode to Coco and Hazara’s friendship. Hazara is Coco's best friend a sweet, kind, and loyal companion. Hazara and her family are of Kurdish Turkish origin, hailing from Kars, a place in the deep Anatolia region of Türkiye. Coco and Hazara practically grew up together, with Coco always feeling welcome and at home when playing at Hazara's house. Hazara's family would always offer her delicious food and treats, especially during “Seker Bayramı,” a traditional Turkish celebration focused on family, togetherness, and gratitude. During these days, Hazara’s mother would present Coco with delectable dishes, particularly rich baklava and kadayif dolması, which became some of Coco’s favourite desserts.
When developing this recipe, Coco wanted to encapsulate the flavours and hospitality she always experienced during her visits to Hazara's family.
The cookie has a rich and creamy pistachio filling with pistachio and white chocolate chunks for a delightful bite. It features a crispy künefe texture, perfectly capturing the essence of Hazara's home-cooked treats and the warmth of their friendship. This cookie will always remind Coco of her beautiful friendship with Hazara a lifelong dear friend.
